I have said before that total solar eclipses are not rare. One happens somewhere in the world approximately every eighteen months and any location on earth can expect to experience a total solar eclipse anywhere between 350-425 years. What is rare is that Perry County, Missouri has experienced two total solar eclipses in less than seven years. That is very rare! We experienced the 2017 total solar eclipse with 2 minutes 40 seconds of totality on August 21, 2017, which brought 17,800+ visitors from thirty-six states and seventeen countries doubling the population of Perry County. As the eclipse clock continues counting down, we are thirty-two days away from our next total solar eclipse experience and as the celestial stars, planets, and moon come closer to lining up for the big show so are our Solarfest plans. The eclipse-themed weekend, April 6-8 will be full of firsts for the area with hot air balloons located at Missouri’s National Veterans Memorial. For a limited time, donations will be made for tether rides to help support the site. Then returning that evening for a free meet and greet with the pilots, and chase crews, and then a fun glow show ending the evening. Those planning to travel to view the 2024 Great North American Total Solar Eclipse is being predicted to outnumber those who traveled to the path in 2017.
