Can You See Me Now?
Perry County Missouri has the rare opportunity to be within the path of totality and experience not only the Great American Total Solar Eclipse of 2017 but also the upcoming Great North American Total Solar Eclipse of 2024. Eclipses are not rare, but to be within the path of totality twice in seven years is! As part of our eclipse planning for such an event, we wanted to have something lasting for our community to look back at as a remembrance of those celestial events that passed over us. Perry County Heritage Tourism Director, Trish Erzfeld had the idea of creating an oversized pair of eclipse glasses for her community. This structure would be a piece of metal art for one of their local parks, but it would also be functional meaning the lenses of the glasses would be outfitted with the … [Read more...] about Can You See Me Now?
Eclipse Expo 2024!
I hope you were able to join us at the Missouri Eclipse Expo last month at the Show-Me Center. It was a fantastic introduction for some and a great refresher course for those of us who have previous eclipse experience. In 2017, Perryville focused a lot on educating our community so that everyone could understand what was special about the eclipse and the expo had some great interactive stations and national speakers who were experts in their fields that revisited a lot of what we experienced during the 2017 total solar eclipse. Understanding eclipses brings more excitement and enjoyment to the day much like being at a sports event and knowing the rules and having the playbook. To understand them more translates into enjoying them more. You'll Get It! The main event in a total solar … [Read more...] about Eclipse Expo 2024!

Die Kleine Schule (The Little School)
Concordia Lutheran Church of Frohna, Missouri built the Little School in 1898. It was a day school where the children of the parish were taught "reading, 'riting, and 'rithmetic" as well as religion. For the most part, children in the primary grades were taught in this building. Prior to the construction of this school, a number of other buildings were used by the congregation. One of these was the log cabin dwelling on the Bergt farm which is now a part of the Saxon Lutheran Memorial located just a short distance north and east of the Little School on Saxon Memorial Drive. The Rev. Christian H. Loeber taught school in this log cabin in 1850 and 1851. This building is one of the oldest existing buildings used as a parish day school in the Lutheran Church- Missouri Synod. From 1851-1854 … [Read more...] about Die Kleine Schule (The Little School)
